Beltain is the ancient Celtic celebration to mark the beginning of summer, with music, dancing and the burning of the giant Wickerman!

Beltain is the highlight of the Butser year and our biggest fundraising event, as festival goers join us to welcome in the summer months while supporting our work.

Money raised during our Beltain festival makes a real difference to the farm and enables us to conduct more research, educational activities and development in the year ahead.

At Butser Ancient Farm we've been celebrating Beltain for many years, by joining us in 2020 you can expect a fantastic afternoon/evening of entertainment and refreshments culminating with the burning of the Wickerman at dusk.

There'll be live music, storytelling, warrior training, ancient skills and traditional crafts, morris dancing, drumming, singing, Roman cooking, re-enactments, face painting, astronomy, metal working, flintknapping, willow weaving, wood-working, textiles and much, much more! There will also be a real ale bar, Celtic Mead and a selection of hot food available, including a hog roast, BBQ, Vegan Dhal stall and more.

'Early-bird' tickets (available until April 1st); Adult: £20/ Child £15 (under 3’s free)

Folk ,prog rock band Spriggan Mist play on home turf at The Acoustic Couch to celebrate Beltaine.

Joining them The everso popular The Hedge Inspectors and the former members of Brocc Blanche Rowen and Mike Gulston who are amazing!

Of Course Jadoo's Jingles will be there with bells on! It's also Mother Dearest's birthday that day so there will no doubt be cake!!!!

Hastings Jack-in-the-green 2020

Hastings Town Centre, East Sussex.

The Jack in the Green Festival is an annual event that takes place in various parts of the gorgeous seaside resort that is Hastings. It's a four day event and attracts thousands every year. This is a true British May Day celebration not to be missed. The four day event has been described as 'thee celebration of Morris dancing and traditional merriment, centering on the symbolic figure of Jack in the Green and culminating in a wild costumed parade - one of the most bizarre in Britain.' The long weekend event includes music of all genres from some of the best local and surrounding areas bands, sun, historic and social events, and is filled with family fun. The weekend is topped off by the main event on the May Bank Holiday Monday, with the Jack in the Green parade itself. The parade begins at 9.45am on the Bank holiday Monday setting off from the Fisherman's Huts in Rock-a-Nore Road in the Old Town, and finishes on the West Hill, where you will have an opportunity to see traditional folk dancers and music throughout the afternoon. The festival culminates with the slaying of Jack, to release the spirit of summer for this year. So come down, be merry and enjoy the true British festivities!

We pride ourselves having high quality wares at our events many of the hand crafted goods our made by pagans that have a vast amount of experience and knowledge which they are happy to share.

During the day there will be free workshops for you to enjoy, you can book a reading or healing, and browse the many retail stalls.
